More home news

ITEM ONE: I've been working away on Emma and have one full post already in the can. You'll be seeing it oh so soon.

And...

ITEM TWO: You will be seeing it here. I gave due consideration to switching blog hosts, but frankly there's so much going on in my life right now that the idea of entering one more new relationship makes my head go all twitchy. So you'll find my romp through Emma right where you've found my romps through everything else.

However...

ITEM THREE: You will no longer find those earlier romps. When I publish my first Emma post, I will be deleting all the posts prior to that.

Because...

ITEM FOUR: The collected Bitch In a Bonnet Vol. I, covering Sense and Sensibility, Pride and Prejudice, and Mansfield Park, is now available as a handsome new trade paperback! Since it's also available as an e-book for Kindle and Nook, that means the text is now commercially accessible to any reader who wants it. And since poppa's got bills to pay, he don't need to be givin' it away for free no more. I'm just sayin', is all.

That's it for now, kids. See y'all in Highbury!

  1. Is the ebook available anywhere other than Amazon or Barnes and Noble? Because B&N won't accept an Australian credit card, and I don't buy Kindle edition ebooks as I have a Sony reader.

  2. Hey Harriet -- B&N, WTF? I guess they must like be #2.

Anyway, the Nook format is called ePub which is supposedly compatible with other e-readers, I just don't know which & where. Let me know if you can't find it ... I want to make sure my blog readers all get EVERYTHING they want. Y'all are my PEEPS.

  3. Yes, ePub is the default standard for eReaders. I have read that Barnes and Noble use a proprietory type of DRM, which means that books sold through them only work on the Nook and not other eReaders. I was prepared to risk my 99c to give it a try, but at the checkout got the message 'You must have a credit card billing address within the US or its territories, including US Military sites, to receive this item. We currently do not support non-US billing addresses.'

FWIW, I buy most of my ebooks through Kobo, who don't seem to have any problems with Australian credit cards and use the Adobe DRM (which is pretty much the standard) on their ebooks. I've also bought a couple of things through Smashwords, and some through an Australian bookstore. (Even though I have a Sony reader, I can't buy through the Sony store as they're not available in Australia, although it is supposed to be 'coming soon'.)

  5. I'm reading your book and am thoroughly enjoying it! I'm still in Sense and Sensibility, but I can't wait to get through the other novels. Your writing is hilarious and you've pointed out so many nuances in Austen's writing that I have missed. Also, it's fun to tell people that I'm reading Bitch in a Bonnet.

  6. Thank you so much for your book - books, I'm glad to hear. I've been screaming at people that Jane Austen is comedy for decades, and seething with each adaptation that tries to play our heartstrings. Thank you thank you thank you.

  7. Thank you, one and all--I'm back in the saddle, a tad later than I'd hoped, but with any luck I'm here to stay.

As for what kept me so away so long...part of the reason is one of those novels Sarah is eager to read. It's my newest offering, BABY, more Hitchcock than Austen but I'm hoping some JA bleeds through...anyway you can read the first chapter for free over at my companion blog, robertrodi.blogspot.com -- let me know what you think, if you do.
